Description

Alesse is a low-dose combined oral contraceptive. Alesse is multiphase drug that is well tolerated by patients and contain different doses of hormones in the pills of different colour. Alesse contains estrogen and progestin components. The contraceptive effect of Alesse is realized by inhibition of ovulation, increase of the density of the cervical mucus and decrease of the sensitivity of the uterine endometrium to the blastocyst.

In addition to the contraceptive effect of the drug Alesse also helps to reduce the intensity and duration of menstrual bleeding, reduces the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and pain during menstruation.

The low-dose hormonal contraceptives reduce the risk of the development of a number of gynecological diseases, and also reduce the appearance of hypertrichosis.

Indications for use

The drug is prescribed as a means of oral contraception to women of reproductive age (note that Alissa does not protect against infectious diseases that are transmitted sexually).

Side effects

Alesse is, as a rule, well tolerated by patients. In some cases, it is noted the development of such unwanted effects caused by the active components of the preparation:

varicose veins, changes in blood pressure, hot flashes, lymphadenopathy, gastralgia, violation of stool, nausea, vomiting, gastroesophageal reflux, knotty focal hyperplasia of the liver, elevated liver enzymes, emotional lability, depression, a decrease or increase in libido, unmotivated aggression, anxiety, irritability, headache, paresthesia, vertigo, poor concentration of attention and migraine. In addition, there is possible development of seizures, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, inter-menstrual bleeding, breast pain, breast enlargement, cervical dysplasia, mastopathy, ovarian cysts, premenstrual syndrome, lower abdominal pain, excessive vaginal dryness, uterine leiomyoma. Also, you may suffer from galactorrhea, burning sensation in the vagina, cysts and benign tumors of the mammary glands and discomfort and bleeding during sexual intercourse.

Allergic reactions: acne, alopecia, skin rash and pruritus, chloasma, urticaria, allergic dermatitis, hypertrichosis, angioedema.

Other adverse reactions: vaginitis of various etiology (including bacterial and fungal vaginitis), herpes simplex, hypertriglyceridemia, swelling (due to fluid retention), intolerance to contact lenses, myalgia, change in body weight.

Drug contraindications

Alesse is not recommended to patients with lactase insufficiency, galactosemia, and malabsorption syndrome of glucose-galactose.

The drug Alesse is contraindicated to patients with such conditions and diseases (including in anamnesis) as the thrombosis, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, angina or stroke (including transient ischemic attack), diseases of the blood vessels associated with diabetes and migraine with visual impairment, speech or numbness of the limbs.

The pill is not advisable to prescribe to pancreatitis with hyperlipidemia, liver disease, hormone-dependent cancer, and vaginal bleeding of unknown etiology, and patients with these diseases in anamnesis.

This drug is strictly prohibited during pregnancy or suspected pregnancy.

Pills should not be taken by women during lactation and children below the age of 18 years.

We recommend caution when prescribing the drug to patients suffering from hypertension, diabetes, obesity, arrhythmia, vascular disease (including varicose veins), epilepsy, hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia, as well as Crohn’s disease, gall bladder disease, anemia, systemic lupus erythematosus and hemolytic uremic syndrome.

Only after a careful evaluation of risk/benefit  the drug can prescribed to patients that have breast cancer in their family anamnesis also to patients with, hyperlipidemia or hypercholesterolemia, stroke and heart attack at a young age, and to patients with hereditary angioedema, chloasma (including in anamnesis), and patients who smoke.
