Amiloride

Description

In case of hypertensive heart disease it recommended to take diuretics with a pronounced diuretic effect. Amiloride has such pharmacological properties.

Amiloride  is not just a diuretic, it is potassium-sparing diuretic, which prevents the development of hypokalemia. Unlike other diuretics it does not leach potassium from the body, but supports its normal concentration in the chemical composition of blood. The drug is often taken in a complex with other diuretics to increase the total therapeutic effect without side effects.

The chemical formula of this drug contains the active ingredient of the same name, which contributes to the breakdown and excretion of sodium and chlorine when it penetrates into the systemic circulation. These micro-nutrients are frequently the cause of spikes in blood pressure, therefore, require correction of the concentration in the blood. But potassium and magnesium are not excreted; Amiloride contributes to their sustained predominance in the biological fluid. This interaction is a base of therapeutic effect, which provides this potassium-sparing diuretic.

The therapeutic effect of Amiloride in the body is observed in 2 hours after reception of a single dose persists for a day. The active ingredient is absorbed equally by the kidneys and liver, and is excreted unchanged in the urine. The drug is available in tablet form intended for oral reception, it is characterized by the ability to accumulate potassium in the blood. This indicator is therefore required to control the laboratory.

Drug indications and contraindications

This medication is recommended for chronic hypertension, in case when a patient should always carry pills in order to stop the seizure at any moment. Amiloride is a part of complex therapy and provides the positive dynamics in the following clinical pictures:

  • Heart failure
  • Cirrhosis of the liver
  • Nephrotic syndrome

  • Hepatic coma
  • Hyperkalemia
  • Hypersensitivity of the body to the active substances

Side effects and overdose

Overall, the drug is well tolerated by the body, and side effects occur in exceptional cases. Often they are associated with increased sensitivity to synthetic components of Amiloride, and allergic, local skin reactions. It is indicated in the instructions that there are other anomalies that can temporarily reduce the quality of life of chronic hypertension:

  • Signs of indigestion
  • Migraine attacks
  • A sharp decrease in pressure
  • Noise in the ears
  • Nausea, vomiting

In case of such deviations in the scheme of complex treatment it is required to temporarily stop taking medication and consult a doctor. It is not excluded that you will be prescribed another drug with similar pharmacological action in the body.

Daily doses, method of application

The drug is designed for oral reception; the daily doses depend entirely on the severity of the symptoms of hypertension. It is allowed to take from 1 to 4 pills per day, but more precise regulations are provided by the physician according to the patient’s state of health.

If the positive dynamics is reached, you shouldn’t stop taking Amiloride abruptly. Supportive treatment involves oral ingestion of 1-2 tablets at intervals of 1-3 days.

The duration of intensive care services varies, but often patients should take this medication until the complete disappearance of symptoms of hypertension and the emergence of stable positive dynamics.
