Drug Description

Champix is the medicine used to fight smoking. The drug affects the brain receptors so that the patients don’t get the pleasure from smoking.
Champix can be used only by adults. This medicine is known under different brand names and is available in various forms.
Champix helps people to stop smoking, even the nicotine replacement therapy didn’t help them. The drug may be combined with psychological counseling and quit-smoking education.

Dosage

Consult the doctor before taking Champix if you have any mental disease, cardiovascular problems, brain diseases and other serious health conditions. Before taking Champirx, you should ask your doctor whether it is suitable for you.
Champix comes in the following dosages: 0.5 mg and 1 mg. Initial dosage is 0.5 mg once in a day for the first 3 days. Later you may increase the dosage to 0.5 mg twice a day for the next 4 days. Rest of the time, you should take 0.5 to 1 mg twice a day. The maximum daily dosage is 1 mg twice a day.
Take Champix for 3 months to achieve the desirable effect. Then your doctor can gradually reduce the dosage and help you to stop the treatment.

Skipping a dose/overdose

Take the drug at the same time every day to avoid missing the dose. However, you can take the missed dosage as soon as you remember. If it’s already time for the next dose, skip the missed one and take only the scheduled dose.
Never exceed the dosage of Champix, as it may cause serious adverse effects and lead to hospitalization.

Safety information

Inform your physician if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Keep the medicine away from children.
Don’t stop the treatment without consulting your doctor. Avoid sharing the drug with other people with the similar diseases. Take the drug only according to the doctor’s prescription.
Avoid taking this medicine if it is already expired. You should be very careful while taking this drug.
Never mix Champix with alcohol, as it increases the risk of mood swings.
If you are suffering from heart diseases, diabetes, kidney failure or any other diseases, tell it to the doctor.

Adverse effects

The use of Champix usually doesn’t cause serious side effects in patients (except for the people with mental disorders or heart problems). This medicine may cause drowsiness. Therefore, if your work requires high concentration, you should avoid taking this medicine. Some adverse effects like constipation, upset stomach, dryness in the mouth, etc. may decrease within 1-2 weeks after the drug intake.

Contraindications

Don’t take this medicine if you’re allergic to the active components available in Champix.
Don’t take Champix if you’re already using any other drugs to stop smoking.
