Crestor is a drug created to combat excess cholesterol. It refers to the pharmacological group of statins. The active ingredient of Crestor is rosuvastatin. The basis of this medication blocks the synthesis of cholesterol. In addition, Crestor normalizes (reduces in case of increasing) the contents of other fats in the blood and other substances that affect lipid metabolism: lipoproteins of low and very low density that carry cholesterol; triglycerides; and so on. The effect of the drug develops, as studies have shown, after a week of regular intake, and its maximum value reaches to the end of the month therapy. Crestor is used for various types of cholesterolemia – primary, mixed, hereditary and so on.

This drug is produced in tablets which should be taken as a whole – do not crush, do not chew. The instruction of the drug prescribes the early appointment to the patient of a special diet created to lower cholesterol. The dose should be selected individually, but as a rule, most patients will do with an initial dose of ten milligrams. In case of a severe hypercholesterinemia that put the health of the cardiovascular system at greater risk, you can use a maximum daily dose of Crestor which is forty milligrams.

Drug contraindications

In case of severe forms of renal dysfunction, as well as active forms of liver disease – this drug is not carried out. Also, you shouldn’t use Crestor in case of myopathy, hypersensitivity to its active substance, along with drugs of ciclosporin series. It shouldn’t be uses by children, pregnant and lactating women, and women who cannot protect themselves while taking Crestor. In addition, there is a whole list of conditions where the drug should be used with caution.

Side effects

Usually undesirable symptoms that accompany the therapy with this drug, are mild and do not require its cancellation or special treatment. These effects depend on dose, that is, the higher the daily dose of Crestor is, the more often and the more clearly they will appear. Often we mark the defeat of the digestive and nervous system – headaches and stomach pain, dizziness and nausea. In rare cases, there is proteinuria (presence of protein of the patient in the urine), myopathy, changes in liver function and so on. It can change biochemical parameters of the blood. In any case, therapy with Crestor should be accompanied by medical monitoring of patient’s condition. The health of the kidneys, liver, musculoskeletal and so on should be under observation. In case of overdose the treatment depends on the encountered symptoms. Hemodialysis is not carried out.
