Description

Deltasone is a glucocorticoid drug which is an analog of hydrocortisone. This drug features an effective antipruritic, antiexudative, immunosuppressive, anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effect.

This synthetic drug has been successfully used in the fight against various systemic connective tissue diseases (scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, periarteritis nodosa, systemic lupus, dermatomyositis). Deltasone copes with eczema and psoriasis, as well as chronic and acute inflammatory processes in the joints (osteoarthritis, polyarthritis, Still’s syndrome, bursitis, ankylosing spondylitis). You should take this drug if you have bronchial asthma, rheumatism, rheumatic carditis, diseases of the kidneys and adrenal glands, allergic eye diseases, blood diseases and disorders of the blood, diseases of the skin and even swelling of the brain.

In most cases, Deltasone is well tolerated. However, prolonged use of this medication may cause such side reactions like burning sensation, itch and erythema. In rare cases, patients complain of nausea and vomiting, dizziness and disorientation, feelings of euphoria and intracranial pressure, bleeding of various origins, excessive fatigue, general weakness of the body, depression and even paranoia. In rare cases, the drug can cause anaphylactic reactions.

Speaking about contraindications of Deltasone, manual instruction identifies the following conditions: tuberculosis, skin tumors, syphilis, the presence of pink and acne vulgaris, as well as hypersensitivity to the active substance of the drug Deltasone and other components included in the medication.

Long-term use of prednisolone causes deficiency of proteins in blood plasma. And since prednisolone in blood plasma is associated with the protein, its deficiency leads to the appearance of toxic free progesterone. Deficiency of plasma protein leads to the violence of growth and sexual development of children and adolescents.

The drug also increases the amount of glucose in the blood, which affects patients with diabetes. It increases the breakdown and at the same time the formation of fats that are deposited in the tissue, creating an excess weight and incorrect configuration of the figure. Mineral metabolism is disturbed due to the fact that the organism outputs potassium (myocardial contractility is reduced), and calcium (osteoporosis – thinning of the bones). The body retains sodium and water – this causes the appearance of edema.

All corticosteroids have severe side effects. How to minimize them?

Protect your bones. Corticosteroids lead to impairment of bone strength. Take adequate calcium and vitamin D.

The condition of the musculoskeletal system depends on physical exercise. Patients who are on cortisone, are prone to weight gain, which causes diabetes. You should strengthen muscles, walk a lot, run, jog.

Quit Smoking. Besides the fact that smoking is harmful to health, it also increases some of the side effects from drugs like Deltasone.

You should stick to a healthy diet. Due to the fact that steroids can cause a rise in blood sugar levels, do not abuse sweet. Eat more vegetables and fruits the menu should include a minimal amount of animal fats and sugar. You should buy a glucometer and regularly measure blood sugar.

Don’t skip visits to the doctor. It is very important that the doctor watch how the disease progresses and observe possible side effects of medications.
