Description

Doxazosin is used for the successful treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. This drug is available in white membrane-covered pills. The main indications for its use are prostatic hyperplasia and arterial hypertension. The medicine is characterized by the long-term and systemic effect on the human body and provides stable therapeutic effect.
Doxazosin belongs to the pharmacological group of alpha-1 adrenergic receptor, prescribed as a part of comprehensive treatment of arterial hypertension, complemented by the prostatic diseases and one of the forms of obesity. The drug is rather auxiliary: it accelerates the common therapeutic effect, directly affects the peripheral vessels and is relevant for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and increased blood pressure.
The medicine can be prescribed only by the doctor after the preliminary diagnostics. Doxazosin contains the active substance with the same name, which has the following effects on the male organism:

  • Dilation of peripheral vessels
  • Reduction of arterial pressure
  • Stabilization of resistance in the urinary tract
  • Normalization of liquid movement through the urinary tract
  • Reduction of the tone of vascular muscles
  • Lowering of blood cholesterol
  • Reduction of symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia

The indicated medicine has expressed hypolipidemic, spasmolytic, vasodilating and hypotensive properties. The active component of the drug achieves maximum concentration in blood three hours after the oral intake. The process of dissolution of Doxazosin takes place in the liver, while the inactive metabolites are excreted by the kidneys and through the intestines.

Indications for use

  • Arterial hypertension
  • Chronic heart failure
  • Metabolic disorders, accompanied by the changes in the blood pressure
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • Urinary retention
  • Prostate adenoma

This drug often forms the part of comprehensive therapy (as an auxiliary drug for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and arterial hypertension). However, not all the patients are allowed to use Doxazosin even on prescription.

Contraindications

  • Liver dysfunction
  • Kidney failure
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Aortic and mitral valve stenosis
