Famvir is an anti-viral drug, whose active substance is famciclovir. After getting into the system, the components of this drug are subject to the interesting chemical transformations and penetrate into the cells, affected by the virus. The main action of Famvir is the suppression of breeding of the infectious agents, impeding the reproduction of their hereditary material (DNA). Many studies have shown the lack of significant impact of this drug on the formation and quality of sperm and the condition of genetic material (at least, if you use the therapeutic dosages of Famvir). This anti-viral drug can be used for the treatment of herpes (herpes zoster, herpes oft he type-1 and type-2), including the strains, resistant to acyclovir.

Famvir is available in pills. In the instruction you can find information about its dosage fort he patients with kidney dysfunctions, who require haemodialysis. Usually, the treatment with Famvir lasts 5-7 days. The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to its components, as well as tot he children, pregnant and breastfeeding women. The last three contraindications are based on the lack of experience with the use of Famvir in this group of patients.

According to the instruction, you can use the drug irrespective of the mealtime (take it with a large amount of water). Its use in different types of herpes implies different dosages (from 125 to 250 mg). This drug is contraindicated tot he children, pregnant women and in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance of this drug.

Side effects and overdose

This anti-viral drug is well-tolerated. However, there were reports of the adverse impact of Famvir on the human nervous system, reflected in the headache, confusion and vertigo, stomachache, sickness, fever, allergic rash and clotting disorders.

There is no information about the real cases of overdose with Famvir. The disease can cause kidney dysfunction. Anyway, you should remember that the drug components are filtrated during hemodialysis. Then comes the supportive care.
