Eye drops FML- Forte is local ophthalmic mean of the group of glucocorticoids. It has a pronounced anti-inflammatory action. The drug is used in infectious inflammatory diseases of the eye.
The drug eliminates inflammation, inhibits allergic reactions, has a local vasoconstrictor effect, reduces swelling, and prevents the deposition of fibrin and collagen. Anti-inflammatory effects associated with exposure to one of the types of white cells called eosinophils. FML- Forte is effective for inflammation of the optic nerve, blepharo-conjunctivitis, scleritis. It is used after surgeries that affect the anterior chamber of the eye.
The drug is prescribed for purulent inflammation:
- Of conjunctiva
- Of cornea
- Of anterior eye
FML- Forte is not applied if the cause of inflammation is fungi, bacteria, viruses, because the corticosteroids suppress local immunity and can strengthen the disease. Contact lenses are not contraindicated, but you should use FML- Forte before wearing them (or after removing). Among the side effects we noted impaired visual acuity, visual field restriction, there may be the development of glaucoma in case of prolonged use, secondary infections. If the underlying disease is reduced the thickness of the sclera or cornea, there is a risk that prolonged use of FML- Forte will be their perforation.
You can buy FML- Forte at the pharmacy if you don’t have contraindications to it. It is not recommended for people suffering from tuberculosis of eye, patients with bacterial infections of the eyes, in case of purulent infection of eye, angle-closure clouding of the lens in childhood. You are prohibited to use the drugs in cases of intolerance to the active substance drops, fluorometholone. Also there was not studied the safety of using the analogue of FML- Forte during pregnancy.
The following recommendations will help with the drug usage:
- Wash your hands throughly before using.
- Put your head back.
- Pull the lower eyelid down and look up.
- Put 1-2 drops into the space between the eyelid and eyeball.
- Don’t touch the eye with container tip, and don’t touch it with your hands.
In case of acute stage of the disease you are allowed to use the drug each hour, in the future, the number of drops must be reduced to 8 per day, 2 drops in each eye 2 times. In case of allergic reactions, treatment should be discontinued and replaced by another drug.
Method of drug reception excludes overdose. However, during the excessive ingestion, you are recommended to wash the eyes with warm water. Treatment in case of accidental ingestion of the drug should be symptomatic and supportive.
Interaction with other drugs
The reception of eye drops that expand the pupil (atropine and other anticholinergic substances) that can cause an increase in intraocular pressure, in conjunction with the drug FML- Forte may cause additive increasing of intraocular pressure.
Ophthalmic corticosteroids may cause increased intraocular pressure and reduce the efficacy of drugs for the treatment of glaucoma. If you are using other eye medications, wait about 15 minutes between taking them.
