Nolvadex is a drug used for the treatment of mammary gland cancer. It is used a part of therapy of Ductal carcinoma in situ. This drug impedes the increase of tumors caused by estrogen in the body.

How it acts?

Nolvadex belongs to the group of drugs widely known as anti-estrogens. Therefore, Nolvadex acts by suppressing the formation and effects of estrogen in some tumors. In its turn, it allows impeding the increase of tumors caused by estrogen.

Indications for use

Nolvadex is usually used for the treatment of patients with mammal gland cancer. Besides, the medicine is taken to treat patients with breast cancer who have passed radiation therapy. The drug is also used to prevent breast cancer. And if you already suffer from this disease, Nolvadex will impede the growth of the tumor.

Dosage

Find out everything possible about the drug before starting the treatment. The average recommended dose of Nolvadex is 40 mg a day, divided into two doses. For Ductal carcinoma in situ, the dosage is 20 mg a day (for five years). Daily dosage for the treatment of breast cancer is 20 mg a day (for one year). However, the dosage depends on your age, risk of disease, health condition, medical history, etc. It is very important to stick to your dosage.
Overdose of Nolvadex can lead to shiver, vertigo, difficulty breathing and cramps.

Precautions

Nolvadex is intended only for the adult women (except the cases of pregnancy and breastfeeding).
Patient with lung and cardiovascular disease, increased cholesterol or lipid level, any cancer (except the breast one) must not take this drug without doctor’s prescription.
Avoid drinking alcohol while treating with Nolvadex, as it may increase vertigo. Don’t forget to use the contraceptive methods during the treatment, as this drug doesn’t impede pregnancy. Try to avoid the contact with ill people, as this drug reduces the immunity level.

Adverse effects

Nolvadex has a lot of adverse effects:

Contraindications
