Plendil is anti-hypertensive, antianginal drug. Plendil blocks calcium channels, inhibits the flow of calcium ions into smooth muscle cells of arterial vessels, causing their expansion, reduces vasodilatation, lowers AD, afterload on the heart, increases coronary blood flow, improves the balance of supply/consumption of oxygen by myocardium.

Once in the body, it promotes the expansion of peripheral vessels, which in turn leads to lower blood pressure, better supply to the myocardium, increases contractile ability of the heart.

Method of application and doses

Plendil is taken inside; the tablet is taken together with water in the morning. It is forbidden chew, break, or crush the tablet. The drug can be taken on an empty stomach or after a small breakfast, which does not contain a lot of fat or carbs. In case of angina and arterial hypertension the selection of the used doses should be done individually.

In case of hypertension you should start treatment with a dose of 5 mg once a day. If necessary, you can increase the dosage or add another anti-hypertensive drug. Standard dose of Plendil is measured from 5 to 10 mg per day. Old people are recommended to start treatment with 2.5 mg per day.

In case of stenocardia you should take from 5 to 10 mg per day.

Special instructions

It is necessary to avoid combinations of drugs inhibiting or inducing the enzyme system CYP 3A4. It is also important to avoid drinking grapefruit juice because of the potential increase of concentrations of felodipine in plasma.

Drug interactions

Biotransformation inhibitors (cimetidine) increase plasma concentration, stimulants (phenytoin, carbamazepine, barbiturates) reduce it.


It was identified that patients with stenocardia had the development of arterial hypotension, leading to lower blood supply of the myocardium. If it is observed the violations of liver function, it is necessary to adjust the dose.


In order to avoid the appearance of side effects and achieve maximum effectiveness of drug treatment, you must strictly adhere to the dosage and course of treatment prescribed by the attending specialist.
