Description

Symmetrel is used fort he treatment of flu, Parkinson’s disease and other conditions. Symmetrel Tablet contains the following active ingredients: Amantadine (Amantadine Hydrochloride).

Amantadine is an anti-Parkinson medication that stimulates dopaminergic transmission in basal ganglia and other parts of CNS through the increased mediator release and suppressing its re-uptake of neurals.

Drug action. Symmetrel is effective against the basic manifestations of Parkinson’s disease, akinesia, rigidity, tremor and bradyphrenia. It improves your mood, normalizes the facial expression, decreases hypersalivation and greasy face. The patient’s condition usually improves in 24—48 hours or at least within a week. The optimal effect is achieved in a few days or 2—3 weeks after the beginning of treatment. The drug is especially active against the influenza A virus, impeding and blocking the penetration of virus into the cell.

Indications for use

Parkinson’s disease, Parkinsonism (rigid and akinetic forms); neuralgia in herpes zoster; loss of consciousness as a result of traumatic brain injury; slow emergence from anaesthesia; chemoprevention and treatment of flu (influenza A virus).

Way of use

Initial dosage of Symmetrel is 1 capsule a day during the meal, preferably in the morning or in the evening within 4—7 days or first 2 weeks. After that, the dosage is increased to 2 capsules a day. In exceptional cases, the supporting daily dosage can be increased to 3 capsules a day (1 capsule 3 times a day). At the end of treatment, the drug dosage is reduced gradually, as sudden withdrawal can lead to the aggravation of disease.

The treatment and prevetion of flu with Symmetrel must start as soon as possible and last at least 1 week. In these cases, take 1 capsule twice a day.

Children from 1 to 5 years should take 1/2 capsule a day; from 5 to 9 years —1 capsule a day; from 9 years and older —1 capsule twice a day.

Contraindications

Liver failure, chronic kidney failure, psychosis (including in history), thyrotoxicosis, epilepsy, close-angle glaucoma, prostate gland hyperplasia, arterial hypotension, chronic heart failure of the II-III stage, anxiety, pre-dellirium, delirious psychosis, I trimester of pregnancy, lactation period, simultaneous use of triamterene and hydrochlorotiaside, hypersensitivity to Adamantine.

Side effects

This list is not definitive. The indicated side effects were fixed earlier, but have very serious consequences. If you note any side effects, immediately contact your doctor (especially if they last for a long time).
