Tramadol is a synthetic opioid. A strong analgesic with central effect. It is used for anesthesia in surgery and therapy.
It is remedy for the relief of pain syndrome of medium and strong intensity of different etiology, including pain that occur to patients who suffer from cancer, pain associated with injuries and in the postoperative period. The drug is also used for analgesia during painful diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
According to the fact that Tramadol is a drug of opiate (opium) group, it is, like other opiates (heroin) addictive. Discontinuation of Tramadol has severe withdrawal.
Tramadol, as the most common synthetic opiate heroin can cause overdose, and it is one of the common causes of death of drug addicts taking Tramadol.
Tramadol can cause death or irreversible harm. Paralysis, amputation is only the beginning of the list of serious consequences, which can lead to the use of Tramadol.
During the treatment it is forbidden to drink alcohol. Tramadol should not be used in combination with narcotic analgesics, since it is difficult to predict the effect of their interaction. The action of tramadol hydrochloride may be weaker to patients receiving long-term carbamazepine. During treatment patients should refrain from driving and performing potentially hazardous activities, requiring increased attention.
Indications for use
It is prescribed for strong acute and chronic pain: the aftercare period for injuries, cancer patients, etc., and also before operations. The use of drug is not recommended for mild pain.
The dose and duration of treatment is determined by the doctor’s individually, based on pain intensity.
Adults and children aged 14 take a pill inside (with a small amount of liquid regardless of the meal): 1 capsule (50 mg). If you have severe pain a single dose is increased up to 2 capsules (100 mg).
Daily dose should not exceed 8 capsules (400 mg).
The drug should not be used beyond the period justified from a therapeutic point of view. The dose is picked individually for patients with illnesses of liver/kidneys, and old people.
In case of moderate hepatic failure you should reduce the dose or increase the interval between doses.
In case of moderate kidney failure, it is advisable to increase the interval between doses. The interval should be increased to 12 hours for patients with creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/min. In such cases, the maximum recommended daily dose is 200 mg.
Tramadol is relatively well tolerated, does not cause expressed respiratory depression in normal doses and does not significantly affect the blood circulation and the gastrointestinal tract. It may, however, cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sweating.
Do not assign tramadol if you have acute alcohol intoxication (poisoning); is forbidden to take for patients with hypersensitivity to narcotic analgesics; patients receiving MAO inhibitors . The prescription to pregnant women should be made with extreme caution. The drug is not prescribed to children up to 14 years.
The drug should not be used during a long period of time ( in oder to avoid habituation /weakening or absence of effect in long-term re-use).
